I'm David, and I make Namezi on my own. Everything you save in it — the names, your notes, the dates, the places — is stored on your iPhone. There is no account to create, and there is no server of mine holding your people. I can't see them.

Namezi has no analytics, no tracking, and no advertising in it. Two things do involve someone else: iCloud, which is Apple's, and the map, which is Google's. Both are below.

A person in Namezi is a name, an optional note, an optional date you met, and an optional place. All four live in the app's own storage on your device, and the app works completely offline.

If you're signed into iCloud, Namezi also keeps a copy in your own iCloud account, in Apple's private database, so your people survive a new phone and show up on your other devices. It happens automatically and there's nothing to set up. That copy is yours — it never passes through anything of mine, and I have no dashboard or export that could show it to me.

If you're not signed into iCloud, or you turn iCloud off for Namezi in iOS Settings, the app carries on as a local app on that device and says nothing about it.

Namezi asks for your location only while you're using the app, and only so it can suggest where you are when you save someone. You can decline and keep using Namezi — you just type the place in yourself, or leave it out. Your location isn't tracked in the background and it isn't sent to me.

The map inside Namezi is drawn with the Google Maps SDK for iOS, and searching for a place calls Google's Places API. So when you look up a place, the text you type and the part of the map you're looking at go to Google in order to come back as results. Google may also collect device and usage information through its SDK.

What Google does with that is covered by Google's privacy policy. Nothing from those requests comes back to me.

No contacts, no photos, no camera, no microphone. No sign-in with anything. No email address, unless you write to me yourself.

Delete a person in the app and they're gone. Delete the app and its data goes with it from that device. If you've been syncing, remove the iCloud copy too under Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Account Storage → Namezi.

Namezi isn't built for children and I don't knowingly collect anything from them. Since I don't collect personal data in the first place, there's nothing of a child's for me to hold onto.

If a future version of Namezi handles data differently, I'll say so here and change the date at the top. I'm not going to quietly start collecting things.
